Week 6 Recap & Scores
11am – Sweeney Taud 26 vs Evil Empire 28
I personally think anytime you play STS, it could be a trap game. Lucky for Evil Empire, the trap was not set tight enough to keep them from coming away with the victory on Sunday. Trap game, only because nothing about STS overall talent stands out to you. But facts are….. They are 1-4 with a point differential of 7 points. This means even being the new kids on the block, they are competing with every team they face. Now they have to find a way to get over the hump and start getting some wins. On Sunday, the Swagg King himself led all receivers with 4 receptions, 163 yards, and 2 touchdowns. Unknown player at QB had a decent day with 242 passing yards and 3 td’s. Somebody get him a jersey or properly register this guy. LOL!! It was very close at halftime with Evil carrying a small 3 point lead going into the 2nd half. Evil came out hitting first giving them a commanding 2 score lead at 21-12 after the first drive of the half. Evil’s BBQ Johnny finished the day with 303 passing yards and 4 touchdowns. The game looked out of reach until STS was able to get the stop they needed to take the lead late in the game. Now down 26-22, Evil drove down the field to take the lead for good. Little people ran wild for Evil with Randall and Zach leading the team in receptions. Respect is earned and not given. And respect is something Evil can take this week versus T1T. This game will be close for sure, but I think the more athletic squad wins. And Evil is not that team. STS will most likely lose another one this Sunday against Dream Killers. But stranger things have happened.
12pm – The Movement 28 vs. Flagrant 22
This game featured two teams playing with very low numbers on both sides of the ball. It would literally come down to who wanted it more. Both teams came into the game riding a miserable 3 game losing streak. Flagrant Qb Rell, had everything going in the 1st half running and passing the ball scoring on both possessions. Tied at 14, both offenses looked strong going into the 2nd half. The Flagrant offense picked up right where they left off in the 1st scoring on the opening drive after the break. Rell finished with 264 yards and 3 touchdowns. Now leading 20-14, Flagrant was in the driver’s seat until The Movement defense took over. Because that would be the last time they touched the end zone. Playing injured, last year’s defensive MVP, RP aka “I make home videos” took over the game. He was flying everywhere at DB and rusher grabbing 7 flags on the day. Sweat Hair no more with the fresh krew cut did his part playing double duty on Sunday. He grabbed 4 flags on defense, passed for 264 yards, and threw 4 touchdowns. The Flagrant defense didn’t play bad getting a key stop in the red zone to put their team in position to win. But a late TD by JT nearly put the game away. With the game far from over, The Movement defense made a crucial pass break up by the oldest man playing DB, Moses aka I fly everywhere Joseph, on the last play of the game. Rell threw it high to one of his big wide outs Amo in the middle of the end zone only to be shut down. Don’t look now, but Flagrant takes their 4 game losing streak into next week’s game against the champs. Hope you guys can count to 5. Movement escapes with the victory just in time for their bye week. They come back for the Game of the week vs. Evil Empire. Another must win for the team in red and black.
1pm – Reign 18 vs The Town 20
Still with a bitter taste in their mouth after losing two weeks ago to Evil, The Town faced up against one of the IAC’s surprises this season in Reign. Fresh off their upset victory against T1T, they looked to really shake up the league with a win on Sunday. However in the end, The Town came out on top. The Town’s offense had troubles early only scoring 7 points in the 1st half. But when your defense is stingy giving the other team a goose egg in the first 20 minutes, one can’t be too mad. I couldn’t say Mr. 36 minutes played well only passing for 196 yards for the game, but he did spread the ball around and had 3 passing td’s in the win. But when I say it was just enough??? It was just enough. Zo scored coming out the half to give his team a 13 point lead. But a key stop by the Reign defense help Mr. Jerk Taco himself, aka Thrill answer with a 12 point spurt to pull within 1 point at 13-12. He was out there slinging loose meat all over the field. He had 3 touchdowns with 258 passing yards for the game. But when you have evenly matched teams on the field, most times, its conversions that end up being the deciding factor. Late in the game, The Town grabbed a commanding 8 point lead. However, Reign had just enough time to answer. The best they could hope for was to force OT. They did the first part scoring on a 25 yard touchdown pass to B Hughes. Now the only thing left was to convert the 2 point conversion. Easier said than done, The Town would make the stop needed to end an exciting mid-season game between two top teams. The Red Man, Mike Haywood again led all Town wide outs with 2 receptions, 75 yards, and a tuddy. B Hughes and Rebekah led Reign in receiving yards, and both also grabbed a touchdown. The Town plays STMO next week. News just in…… This game is already over!!! While Reign faces a tough Big O squad. I predicted Reign to only win 2 games in the preseason. I’m not exactly4 jumping on the bandwagon yet, but I do have them beating Big O in a close game. It will be a good one.
2pm – STMO 6 vs. T1T 36
This win was all but expected for T1T. However, how they won was something I wanted to keep an eye on. And winning by 30 is the definition of not letting a lesser opponent off the hook. T1T dominated this game from start to finish. This season has been eye opening for STMO. Their current roster as it stands could rule the North Side leagues. But this ain’t that. Talent on both sides of the ball will be much needed for them to be competitive next year. QB might be their number 1 priority. A speedy Erik Smith threw for only 93 yards on Sunday. Kind of pathetic. I’m 13 yards short of that on my opening drive for crying out loud. The good news was he did throw for a touchdown. Bad news was he also threw 2 pics. The best worst QB in the league threw for 5 touchdowns on the other side. They took a 12-6 lead into halftime. But that close margin didn’t last long. They outscored STMO 24-0 on their way to victory. Gene’s favorite target Al B Sure, aka J Young only caught one ball, however Sara Turk and Julian Hollins took up the slack with 11 catches between them and 4 touchdowns. T1T is having a great season so far and look to make a strong run into the playoffs. Up next will be a hungry Evil team looking to prove they can play in this league. As predicted earlier, I think T1T will outplay the experienced Evil squad and earn the win. STMO loses their 6th straight next week against The Town. They are averaging 12.5 points per game this season. That will not get it done.
3pm – Game of The Week
Big O 15 vs. Dream Killers 13
Just when you thought DK was the cream of the crop, they lose miserably to Big O. This was a game where only The Big O probably thought they had a chance. No knock on them, but DK had been playing lights out all year long, damn near scoring at will, with a stingy defense to match. However, this past Sunday, JP must have left his talents over on the men’s flag field. He came out flat, and tried to force throws into small windows throwing not 1 but 2 interceptions. It may be safe to say, this team will go as far as JP can go. Big O’s Uncle Willie didn’t do much either, but 2-2 on conversions was everything he and Big O needed to get the win. With equal bad QB play to go around, defenses on both sides did what needed to be done to be great. From turnovers on downs to interceptions, this was a low scoring game that went down to the last play for it all. Big O jumped on top early with a 15 -0 lead going into the 2nd half. Scoring touchdowns by Little D, aka Darious Melchor and KC Davis, they had the commanding lead. Or so it seemed. The DK defense would not let Big O touch the end zone for the rest of the game. JP threw a red zone touchdown to pull within 8 to start the 2nd half. But it was the MVP front runner, Mr. No Name, aka Kevin Teamer who caught a 40 yard pass over multiple Big O defenders that put DK in position to force O.T. All was needed was the 2 point conversion. JP took the snap, looked left, and came back right throwing a comeback pass to Desroy in the end zone. But the second oldest DB in the league, Adrian Gibson sat on the pass, and broke it up with eaze to end the game and any hope of DK keeping their #1 IAC ranking. This one lived up to the Game of The Week title. Dream Killers still look to be in the driver’s seat for the division title, however it will come down to points against in the end. They look to get back in the winning column next week versus STS. The last two weeks, we have seen the #1 ranked IAC teams fall. Next week, the two teams that completed the upsets face off against each other in a huge divisional match up. I think Big O will be too much in the end versus Reign. Look for a close game that ends on the last drive of the game.
